The City of Houston is not lacking in good places to eat. When February 14 rolls around for  Happy Valentine's DayValentine’s Day, it can be hard to narrow down the best romantic place for your valentine. Consider these five romantic Houston Restaurants for Valentine’s:  Café Rabelais, Mockingbird Bistro, Patrenella’s Café, Rainbow Lodge, and Spindletop Restaurant that are both informal and formal.

Café Rabelais

It is a small French, family-owned restaurant. Café Rabelais is cozy and rustic and is like being in a bistro South of France even though you are in West University area of Houston. Bread is out of this world, wine list is extensive in all price ranges and the French food is fantastic.

Café Rabelais is offering a special Valentine’s Day dinner. First seating is at 5:30 p.m. with a three-course dinner, $45 per person. Or a five-course dinner is being served at 7 o’clock and 9:30 p.m., $55 per person. Entrée choices include Chilean Sea Bass, New York Au Poivre, Chicken Roulade and others.

Hearts for Valentine's Day 2013Mockingbird Bistro

Mockingbird Bistro, located in River Oaks, is the place for a big steak and French fries with a red wine or a hamburger with a cold beer. Menu includes Country-French items. Service is outstanding. Appetizer choices worth noting are the French onion soup and the salmon tartare. A fantastic entree choice is the red snapper.

If a romantic dinner on Valentine’s Day is not possible, Chef John Sheely is offering a special three-course from Thursday, February 14 through Sunday, February 17.  First course selections include Maine Lobster Ravioli and warm jumbo lump crab Tian, plus more. Choose main course items including Pacific Sea Bass, Hawaiian Tuna, Black Angus Beef Filet and Slow Braised Colorado Lamb Shank. Don’t forget the dessert with choices from Flourless Chocolate Cake and Dark Chocolate Pot de Crème. Price per person is $65, plus tax and gratuity.

Patrenella’s Café

Patrenella’s Café, located in The Heights is ideal for conversation and drinks in an unhurried open home atmosphere. It has an extensive wine list, including wines from Corleone, Italy. Vegetables are prepared from the on-site organic garden.  Excellent selections are Cream of Asparagus Soup, Lasagna, Pesto and Pine Nut Pasta and the Tiramasu.

The Rainbow Lodge

The beloved Rainbow Lodge continues to be a premier romantic venue for anniversaries, weddings and Valentine’s Day dinners.  The restaurant has several fireplaces to warm the atmosphere. Spindletop Restaurant

Spindletop Restaurant, a seafood and fine dining restaurant, is a rotating restaurant, with a 360-degree view above 34 floors, located in the Hyatt Regency.  It is a unique experience viewing the city or watching a sunset, making a complete revolution every 45 minutes.  The special Valentine’s Day dinner is already sold out as of this writing.
